2019 Volkswagen Golf Paintless Dent Repair Pittsburgh PA
In this article, we will be focusing on a paintless dent repair warranty that is available when you purchase a vehicle, usually as an add-on to the car’s warranty. If you are not familiar with paintless dent repair, let me explain that process. Paintless dent repair (PDR) is a specialized method aimed at fixing dents on vehicle surfaces without resorting to conventional repair techniques such as sanding, filling, and repainting. Skilled technicians employ unique tools to delicately manipulate the metal back to its original shape from behind the impacted area. When access behind the damage is inaccessible, glue and tabs are used to pull the metal from the outside. This technique ensures that the vehicle’s original paint remains intact, making it particularly suited for minor damages like dings, dents, and hail dents.
Before agreeing to any paintless dent repair warranty, it’s crucial to carefully read and understand the terms and conditions.Â
Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) warranties can vary depending on the provider and the specific terms of the warranty. However, here are some general aspects you might encounter:
- Duration: Paintless dent repair warranties typically have a duration, which can range from a few months to several years. The duration might depend on factors such as the type of repair, the extent of the damage, and the policies of the repair shop.
- Coverage: The warranty should specify what types of damages are covered. This could include things like dents, dings, and minor creases that can be repaired using paintless dent repair techniques. However, it’s essential to carefully read the warranty to understand the limitations and exclusions.
- Conditions: Warranties often come with conditions that must be met for coverage to apply. For example, the warranty might only be valid if the repair was performed by an authorized technician using approved methods and materials. Failure to adhere to these conditions could void the warranty.
- Transferability: Some warranties are transferable, meaning they can be transferred to a new owner if the vehicle is sold. This can add value to the vehicle and provide peace of mind to the new owner.
- Exclusions: The warranty may list certain exclusions, such as damage caused by accidents, improper maintenance, or environmental factors. It’s essential to be aware of these exclusions to avoid any surprises if you need to make a claim.
- Claims Process: The warranty should outline the process for making a claim, including any documentation or evidence required. This might involve contacting the repair shop directly or going through a third-party administrator.
- Limitations of Liability: Like any warranty, there may be limitations on the repair shop’s liability. This could include limits on the amount they will pay for repairs or restrictions on the types of damages covered.
We had a young couple bring their 2019 Volkswagen Golf for us to take a look at. They had four tiny dents, each under an inch, two on the rail and two on the roof. We provided them with an estimate, and they let us know they had a paintless dent repair warranty that they wanted to use to pay for the repair. Most of the warranty companies have a similar process for filing a claim. When you purchase the warranty, you will have a page in the contract that gives instructions. You need to provide this page or the information on it to your repair shop. Once the repair shop has seen your damage (best practice would be an in-person assessment) and provided you with an estimate, then the repair shop will call the warranty company. While each warranty company is different, they all have guidelines to follow as far as how much they are willing to pay, and the size of damage that qualifies for a paintless dent repair as opposed to a traditional body shop. We’ve had companies who are not willing to pay over $100 for a dent four inches or less. Our service starts at $165 and that covers one inch with no other addeditional factors. (I.E. bodyline, aluminum panel, or obstructed access are a fewÂ
Our service starts at $165 and that covers one inch with no other addeditional factors. (I.E. bodyline, aluminum panel, or obstructed access are a few things that will increase the cost of repair.) In these cases, those companies will not work with us on price and there is no middle ground to work towards. Those warranty repairs are dead upon arrival.  Our customers have two options here:  Go with us and get the best repair but pay out of pocket, or find another company that will work within the guidelines of the warranty.  We’ve had customers do both so it comes down to what is most important to the customer.
In other instances, we’ve had companies who want to pay less than we charge for a repair, and we can negotiate an acceptable price that they will cover, on a repair that the customer is happy with, that we feel is a great repair we would charge you for.  More often than not, this is where most warranty companies fall, and our customers appreciate the flexibility.
In the case of the young couple and their Volkswagen Golf, I will say it was one of the smoothest warranty repair processes I’ve been involved with.  I was very apprehensive when I first called them.  The Golf had 4 separate dents, two on the rail, and 2 on the roof.  All were under an inch in size.  We put together an estimate, and I called the warranty company.  I explained that there were four separate dents and the representative I spoke with was exceptionally friendly, we were able to get approval for the repair for the full amount and schedule our customer the same week.
