Speaker: [00:00:00] Hey, what's up everybody? Gene Fetty back at you with another episode of the All Access Podcast. Now from DA Repair. Now, uh, special episode today we've got the one and only Woo Man, Jack Bucknell in town in Pittsburgh. Mm-hmm. Uh, and we decided, uh, we were gonna go out for cigars tonight, so we figured we'd do a live episode from the Cigar bar.
Uh, talk about what's going on, what's on our mind and everything like that. So hopefully the audio is good. Hopefully the background noise is not too bad. Uh, it's a lot quieter than when we were here yesterday. Yes. Yes. So way quieter than last time and, and no live music, so that's good. Um. Jack, welcome back to Pittsburgh for your like, good to be back Teenth time.
Yep, yep. I dunno how many times you've been here, but you're starting to know roads. It's been a lot. Oh yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2: True. I'm recognizing area like, oh yeah, we took this way to team back in 2020 or whatever. Like Exactly. Yeah. If you were coming from Louis's house, this is the way you would take to our house.
I'm like, oh yeah, I recognize this. Yes. Yeah, it's [00:01:00] good.
Speaker: That's good. Uh, so, so thanks for coming back on the show. Absolutely. We've been on a few Yep. Trying to figure out what we wanted to talk about tonight. Looking for inspiration, uh, you know, and discussing off camera. Yep. I think the inspiration this week is at a local tech, uh, that's, that's a former employee of the big company.
Mm-hmm. Who a few years ago went on on his own. Yep. And through some other mutual friends. Our buddy Andy Patrick is, how you know through him is how he got my number. Good guy. Uh, he reached out to me three years ago when he jumped ship and, you know, looking for advice on what's going on and what's the market look like.
Yep. Seems like a nice guy. And Yep. And I'm an open book anyways. Oh, absolutely. Same. Yep. Well, finally, three years later, uh, he finally made the trip and stopped down at the shop. Awesome. Stopped in, uh, and. Uh, Anthony's his first name. I'll leave his last name out. [00:02:00] Uh, really nice guy. Like a, like a normal dude.
Uhhuh, like a normal dent guy. Um, he's about an hour, maybe a touch over an hour away from us. Yep. Uh, so not really like not a local competitor. Yep. Correct. Yeah. So yeah, stop down, check it out. But the one thing that he really said that really struck me is, man, I really feel like I'm just on an island by myself.
Yeah. Yeah. And that's like a, what made him think that? Well, I mean, but so Well the think, think about the situation he is in. He was with a big company, correct? Right. And just as an employee. Yep. And they sort of give you everything you need. And you've got transportation, you've got taking care of, you've got a manager to report to.
You've got other employees that are around you that. You're not working together, but you know what I mean, you're sort of Yep, yep. Uh, working next to Yep. But you're not asking for advice. You're not building anything. Yep. Yep. He leaves there, [00:03:00] opens up his own shop, jump right into a retail shop. So like props to prop, that's a big jump.
That's good for him, man. Props and, you know, ballsy enough to do that. Yes. Yeah, absolutely. Hat's off. Um, but he's not, I've seen him on Facebook a couple of times, or maybe his business page. He is never been to an MTE, he's never been to PDR Expo. Uh, I've invited him to some meetups. Yep. And he hasn't, hasn't been able to make the, the track or wasn't comfortable or whatever it was.
So, so what makes him think he's on an island? He kind of built his own island like he's living. He's living on an island. He's not leaving the island. Right. He's got the boat, but he is not getting on the boat, leaving the island. Yeah. Uh, so I'm really glad that he came down. Yeah. You know, like anytime, anytime I can help somebody get better.
Yeah. I'm all in. Like that's just same. That's
Speaker 2: just Yep. Yep.
Speaker: Being a good
Speaker 2: human,
Speaker: as far as I'm concerned. Local, local
Speaker 2: person [00:04:00] to you or not, you know, doesn't matter. I don't know. To me, I don't. I, I know we've had this conversation where I don't look at even people in my local market as competitors. No, I don't either.
Like, look, it's a, it's a, it's a person that's trying to support themselves, family, kids, all that stuff. Like more power to 'em. Good for, good for them. I, I wish nobody ill will at all.
Speaker: Oh, right. And, and listen and locally, I don't wanna collude with anybody. I don't wanna do something like illegal. But I'd like to be competing on a more equal level.
Correct? Yes. Right? Like, yep, yep. How do you do this? What do you do with it anyway? You set your own braces, you do whatever, but like, correct. Yep. Yep. How are you selling these repairs? What, you know, what's your process? That stuff is, man, we've been learning it for years. Yes. Yep. You know? Thanks. Yep. You know, shout out to Keith and Shane and PDR College podcast and Mike and John back in the day, like life changing.
Life. Absolutely. Life changing. Life changing. Absolutely. I mean, yeah. Um, so [00:05:00] you know Anthony, I'm glad you came out. If you listen to the show, you should. He will now. He said he doesn't listen to podcasts. I told him to go back. Well, good thing is on YouTube so you can listen to watch a video. Yeah. I told him he needs to go back and guys, if you're a newer tech or if you have never listened.
I said, go back and listen to all like 200 episodes of the PDR College podcast. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. It literally is like changing like a college education. Correct. In the business of PDR. Yep. You know, like, and those guys paved the way for podcasts. Oh, dude, you a hundred percent in, in the space pr.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes. I was listening to podcasts a long time before them, but. They brought podcasting to PDR. Yep. Yep. Um, so, so in sitting in, you know, the two of us sitting here talking, like building [00:06:00] relationships in business and, and we even talked a little bit about this yesterday, sitting with, talking with, collaborating with, or just having a, a bitch session or a crying session.
Uh, business owner to business owner. Mm-hmm. Right? Like you can have conversations that you can't have anywhere else. Correct? Yeah. Right. I don't, I don't think that there's anybody in c in our space that puts themselves out there, that goes out and goes to MTEs and PDR expos and ants and open houses and, you know, uh, meetups and toy drives, toy drives and everything.
Yep. I don't feel like any of those people feel like they're on an island. Right. Yeah. Because they are out there and networking and building relationships, so, well, that's sort of a long intro, but what are some of the cool relationships that you have built? [00:07:00] Because of this amazing little industry we're in called PDR, uh, and being the kind of person that goes out there and does network and, and meets people, what, what are some of the give gimme, give, give the audience.
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Some examples of some of the relationships you've built and, and some of the opportunities that those relationships have brought to
Speaker 2: you. Well, I mean, first off, I got to meet you and now I'm in Pittsburgh at a cigar bar doing a podcast with you. Lot. Well, right. Recorded, you know, whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, um, we're recording last year being, being, being, doing this, uh, here. And, um, you know, on top of that, knowing Tex not only around the country in the United States, but also worldwide, I mean, I've, this last year, um, I went to the Japan show and were, was over in Japan for, I believe it was 12 days.
I'd never, in my wildest dreams would've thought I'd go to Japan, especially for that amount of time. And then also [00:08:00] in the same year, went to the Germany show, went to Amsterdam and Germany. From fixing dents. From fixing dents. I'm a dude with some tools. You know, we kind of kicked back to like the whole, like, I'm a dude in a truck, chucking a truck, whatever, chucking a truck, right?
But I mean, you know, like just, that's what, but that allowed me to have the possibilities to do that. Um. And, and realistic. I could go to the, the, the show in Italy as well. I just didn't this year. Right. Um, but you know, there's an invite there, there's a, there's a, you know, there's open arms from the, the local techs that go there, or the worldwide techs that I know that go to that show.
Um, and it's just, it's just, it, it's been life changing. I mean. Yeah, I don't, I mean, next weekend I'm going to Minneapolis to see Mr. Baine, Deb Reaper, right. To hang out for a Christmas related party. And you know, I'm here now and we went out this weekend and went and did all Pittsburgh Christmas. Stuff, [00:09:00] everything we could, Ima, you know, eight looked at all the lights and Christmas more lights, everything.
And more lights and more. It was fantastic. It was awesome. That's exactly what I wanted to do. Yeah. And it was fantastic. And I got to hang out, you know, with you and Melissa and, and see Charlie and Louie and his family. And it was, it was, it was, it was beautiful. I loved it. Like that's why, you know, and that, and that helps drive me to want to work more and better to be able to have not only the relationships, but to be able to do that, you know, to be able to branch out.
And I got that from. Well, PDR College first off. Right. But then going to MTE, which is where I met you, right. From Advanced Skills seminar. Exactly. You know, just, um,
Speaker: yeah. So, so you mean you literally built lifelong friendships? Correct. Lifelong relationships, correct.
Speaker 2: By being out there because, because I listened to PDR College.
Yep. When it started in 14, when I, when I went full time into PDR, it was in 2014. I started in 2010 and I went to, uh, I took a leap of fate, basically listened to PDR College [00:10:00] and in, I think it was six, yeah, 16 was the, was that the second show? I think it was the second one. Yeah. Second show missed. I went to the second, I went to the second show.
Missed. That was my first one on saying correct. Yes. So. You know, getting to meet you and multiple other techs. But then it really, for me personally, in 17 was the year where it really took, like astronomically took off. That was relief. Like that was the, well, and that was the year I started the business.
So that was the, you know, Sioux Falls dinner repair. So like that is obviously a big thing, but. Just, I never would've, and that was me. A dude who never traveled by himself, never went anywhere by himself, never done anything.
Speaker: So, so all of your crazy travel is just trying to make up for a lifetime of not traveling.
Yeah, yeah. True. That's that, yeah.
Speaker 2: It all, it all, yeah, it all makes sense now. But, um, yeah, I mean, I'd never, I'd never traveled independent all by myself before. Um, and jumped on a plane to go to P College Advanced Skills Seminar. A couple dudes I [00:11:00] listened to a podcast on, you know, knew of their faces. Uh, I don't, they did some videos back then, but it was more like the character, the characters.
Characters, yeah, yeah, yeah. On the website, you know, some, you know, they could, you know, that or whatever, but, um. You know, like, but when you listen to a person that much, kinda like, you know, we've talked about in the past about doing videos with customers. Yep. They get to know you. They, they feel like they know you.
You're a, you're a, before they even leave a celebrity essentially. So I'm going to advance skill seminar knowing these two dudes voices from a podcast going, well this is a, probably a similar amount of similar group of people. I'm just gonna go. And, and at the TII remember specifically the first night I get there, I'm at the, the, uh, in the hotel room.
I'm sitting in my room talking to a friend on the phone, and I'm just like, I just need to, I just need to, and I'm like, you know, tired travel, whatever. And I'm just like, you know what? I just need to go down to the bar and just go and just, just go introduce. There's going to be [00:12:00] people down there. At the end of the day, it's just, that's what's gonna happen.
Right? And that's what I did. And then I started building relationships with people there, and then just snowball effect, right? The rest is history.
Speaker: So listening to that from the outside, putting yourself out there, going to this event, going to these events. Mm-hmm. And seeing, like I've, I've been on the Jack Bucknell journey since early on.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Speaker 2: yeah. Yeah. You've been very, helped me astronomically throughout the, the process, so. Well, I, I, I appreciate that. Yeah. Well, no lie straight up. Yeah.
Speaker: But I think the point to grab here is doing that helped you springboard. To where you're at today. Absolutely. You know what I mean?
Because like, it, it really, no, you're a man of action, right? Like, like I always joke, take mass, take massive action, take mass of action. I, I always joke that if I told Jack that if you were on the Golden Great Bridge tomorrow, moon in the world, your business would [00:13:00] double. There's no question in my mind they'd be like, you know, San Francisco news would be on the, on the, like there's a crazy man with his ass hanging out.
And it's like Sioux Falls tattooed on his ass. You'd be there, so you, so, so I don't wanna discount that, that you really do take massive action, but if you didn't put yourself into the situations to learn what you learned and meet who you've met and, and follow the mentorship programs and, and, and do the hard work.
Mm-hmm. You wouldn't be anywhere near where you're at today. Correct? Yeah. You certainly wouldn't have the opportunities you have today. Yeah. I didn't get to go out to Pittsburgh this weekend and
Speaker 2: Right. Hang
Speaker: with my good friend Gene. You'd be freezing in South Dakota with 30 mile an hour winds and snow advisories be like, maybe I should go ice fishing.
Right.
Speaker 3: I mean, listen,
Speaker: don't, don't knock ice fishing. That's two weeks away, so that's fine. Coming. It's coming. Um, what are some of the, so the relationships amazing, right? Like Oh yeah. And really, yeah. In my mind that stuff [00:14:00] trumps business anyways. I mean, yeah. What are some of the business opportunities that, that you've had made available to you by going out and networking and meeting these people all over the country?
Um,
Speaker 2: so, uh, a lot of the, um, actually I think actually every technician that I've gone and worked for, so I've been in business eight years and eight and a half years now. And every technician I've worked with, I have met, I wanna make sure I'm correct on this, through PDR College originally. Wow. Every single one.
Wow. That's strong. And you didn't you meet Amanda
Speaker: and Ron through that?
Speaker 2: Uh, good point. Good point. No, I did not. That was through the 20 group. All right. Alright. Okay. Good call. Good call. Good eye. Good eye. I, man, I don't think I ever saw Ron that I, good eye gained skills, but, okay. So except, and they're four hours away from me in, in the Des Moines, Iowa area.
Yeah. Um, and which is awesome 'cause I can buzz down [00:15:00] there in a, a day and, you know, go home on the weekends or whatever, which is fantastic. Um, good call. Good call. But other than them, yeah, so.
Yeah, I, that's everybody else. But, but, but I wouldn't have met man and Ron through the 20 group. I didn't go if it wasn't for us. Right. If I didn't meet you and everybody else in, in, in PR college. So, I mean, it's a, just like a spinoff of that if you want, for lack of better term. Sure. But you know that, that, yeah.
Speaker: So in your, in your business model is just to let everybody know is Chase a little bit. Yes. Retail at home, full retail nos, no wholesale car dealers, car lots, no
Speaker 2: wholesale, minimal body shops, which is, and that's just fine. I, I wanna deal with the regular, general public. I want the retail client to come to me directly for repairs.
Mm-hmm. Um, and, and nothing against wholesale, nothing against body shops at all. Just that's the model [00:16:00] that I wanted my business to be after. Right. Yeah. Um, and that was, that was strongly pushed actually by Keith shortly after going on out on my own. I was on a a pod. I've been on P College a couple times and one of the podcasts after we got done, I was kind of talking with him about the rest of my day and he's, you know, just kind of hanging out and eat lunch.
And I'm just like, yeah, I gotta go to this, you know, car lot. I'm trying to get to work. And he's like, man, Jack, I'm gonna be really honest with you. You, you don't really sound really that enthused. And I'm like, well honestly, I really don't wanna do car lot stuff. I want to do your, your, your, your customer.
You talk with the customer, you build the rapport with them. You get the, you get the job, you do the job. They're really happy. You get all that satisfaction of them being like, oh my God, I can't believe the dent's gone, blah, blah, blah. And he was like, so what Are you wasting your time going to a car out for that you don't even want to do the work for?
I'm like, that's a really, that's a really good point. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, he's like, well, well just, he's like, nothing wrong with, you know, Carla or whatever, wholesale work in [00:17:00] general at all. Wholesale is not dead, but wholesale, dead, whatever. But, um, you know, it's just, it, it's, you know, you just gotta, where do, where, where do you wanna take your business?
And, and then just do that. As easy as that sounds. It is that EI mean. Right. I mean, just, it just, I don't know. I mean, it just, it is like, it's just like a didn't Oh my god. Like a revelation. Whatever you needed, you need that,
Speaker: that outside site. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. To, to see it. Yeah. Yes, yes. Yeah. Yeah. So, so you've built relationships mm-hmm.
With business owners, technicians, all across the country mm-hmm. That for eight years mm-hmm. That you've been in business by yourself. You have been able to put yourself to work. On the road to cover the hail portion of the year that you need mm-hmm. Every year. Mm-hmm. By going out and networking and meeting people at events.
Mm-hmm. Right. And nurturing and nurturing the relationship. It's not a, you know, by no means do I, am I saying like, [00:18:00] go to MTE and handout cards and kiss ass and be fake? I mean, like these are No, no, not at all. No, no. These are
Speaker 2: real relationships. And actually to, to back up, uh, actually this year. Both those guys I worked for in the indie area or in, uh, Louisville area.
Were not both po so just backtracking here to correct myself. Uh, I did not meet both of those, but those relationships were built off of going to MTE and it just off it's branch. Exponential. Exponential. It, yeah. It just, it just grows. Yeah, it just grows. I'm sure I'm forgetting some more, whatever, but a lot of the people in the past, it's been from PDR College, but I wouldn't have gone to MTE without PDR College, so.
It piggybacks off of one another. Right. You know? Yeah. Yeah. Um, and, and it's been fucking awesome, for lack of better terms. It really has. Has, it has, it really has. I, I, I have the, I'm blessed to be able to come out here and see you. What, what is it? My third year for Christmas, at least fourth year,
Speaker: maybe even more.
It's at a minimum of three. Yeah. Easily. [00:19:00] But really easily. Before that you were coming out for our dance for kids Correct. And everything like that. So, which
Speaker 2: is Christmas as well. Yeah. Yeah. So. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. You find your
Speaker: way here around December? Yep. Just about every year. Yeah. Um, twist my arm. Yeah. So one of the things that's probably out, it's been a minute.
Yeah. Uh, so, so one of the things that struck me is, you know, we were talking before we hit record and you were talking about, man, I've been able to travel all over the world and do all these cool things. And I'm like, man, I got to travel around the country, which is amazing. One thing that, that I've picked up, besides all of the amazing stuff I've been able to do and the amazing places and people I've met internationally, I've made friends, yeah.
All over the world through PDR and going to advanced skills or going to MT or the expo, getting to meet people and talk and you know, like John Z uh, like we helped him get his visa and when he [00:20:00] comes to the States, he works. For us, and it's a great friend. Yep. Yeah. That I met. And an absolutely phenomenal Texas, let's not brush that over a super guy, like 10 time winner.
Is it 11 though? 11 Might be 11 now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, even I, I met him at Advanced Skills Seminar in 2019, uh, when it was at, uh, in venture, TDN. Yep. I was like that. And, uh, man, it was like we just sat down and started BSing and just hit it off. Yeah. He's immediately, he's a fantastic guy. We have taught classes together.
We've worked together, presented together. He's, I think he's my number one podcast guest. You might be, you might be teetering now, but like John's been on the show a bunch of times. Yeah. Um, pretty crazy. He did Side note, he did like the name, the Zamer Oh oh boy. But he said he likes to just keep things simple and he is not changing the name.
Ah, but he did admit that he liked the Zamer name so. And if you missed that better coin [00:21:00] that, if you missed that, go back to the last episode, the Cyber Monday. Yep. And check out his hammer zamer. Yep. From a one tool that's part of his signature series. It's very cool. Uh, I had all big smashes this week and didn't get to use it though, so that happens.
Review to come later.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker: Um, but man, the, the relationships that, the friendships that I've made literally all over the world, I mean, just. Crazy. You know, like, yeah.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and he was nice enough in the the Japan competition, I used his tools. Oh wow. Yeah, I was like, Hey man, that's amazing. And so he's obviously won a lot and he didn't win over there.
Did you take all, he didn't Juju, did you take all his juju out, his tools or something? I, I don't even wanna get into that. I actually joked with him about that. I know, sorry. I know, but, but he's won since then. So, you know, Juju fucking wash away, whatever, you know, he
Speaker: disinfected the tools or whatever. I don't know.
Anyways, he did let one of his tools that. At Vegas and [00:22:00] totally
Speaker 2: redeem himself
Speaker: and, and you know, back placed, you know, your third, so. Yep. That's awesome that for one year tech, less than a year in, in the Yes. Less than a year in 10 months. Correct. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty amazing. Um, and the relationships have been so cool.
It's, you know, for me, my whole Kiko journey started Yep. By going to the Hail expo in 2019. Yeah, yeah. In St. Louis Uhhuh. Right. And getting to meet Chris White and. You know, prior to that was through Dave ot, which was through Dave Stream, which was through going to MTE and putting it all out there. Like, it's just, it's all connected, man.
Like, it all snowballs and all branches off of shit. And meeting, meeting the right person and making the right decision can literally change your whole life. Yeah. Change the whole trajectory of, of everything. Nope. Like it's just, you guys, you gotta get out there. And get to these events. Yes. Right. Which is, we could go on for hours, probably of all the people we've met and the relationships, [00:23:00] but it's a good segue into MTE 2026.
It's coming up and it's the 25th anniversary It is. Of MTE. Oh yeah. It's gonna be a big deal. Um, I don't have the dates, uh, end of January, beginning of February. Hey, uh, Jack. Pull that up.
Speaker 2: Pull it up, Jamie. Uh, so it is the, it'd be the 20, uh, January 29th, 30th, and 31st. So actually Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Actually it
Speaker: starts on the 28th, but the 28th is the beginner's day, correct? Yes. New, new new Tech day. Yep. Uh, so right, it's coming up. Yep. I'm speaking, uh, glue Poll 1 0 1, glue poll. Beginning, uh, on that beginner's day. Uh, Thursday, I'm doing unlocking, uh, and Staying Unlocked through Your Repairability for Kiko, coming outta Kiko Retirement to do a talk.
Oh, nice, nice. Awesome. Dan. I was, I was out at an event. Yep, yep. Uh, advanced Skills this year. Yep. And hanging out with Danny and, and we were talking and he is like, man, you should put that Kiko [00:24:00] shirt back on and come do a talk for us. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm all in, man. I still. I still bleed blue.
I still love Kiko. Oh yeah. Yeah. So I'm excited for that. Um, myself and Matt Moore are co-hosting the shop owners round table. Yep. Uh, we're gonna mc it this year. Yep. We've got Andy and Amanda Patrick of Dapper Dan Repair coming in to talk. Yep. Shotty Ryan shut. Yep. Uh, is coming on. That dude's killing it, man.
Like open up another shop to do boat film, dude. Wow. Dude. Man shut. Hats. Hats off shut. You're killing it, bro. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, and then Doug Hillious, former 20 group member, founding 20 group member outta Seattle. Man. Doug is a sleeper. That dude runs a hell of a retail business. Great tech, great business, and an even better guy.
Yes. Like Doug is just a fricking great dude, smart guy. He's one of those quiet guys. You don't hear a lot about business from him. He's killing it. Absolutely killing it. Yep. Yeah, it's, it's amazing. Um, [00:25:00] super excited for all of those talks. So am I. Yeah. So what are you looking forward to at mt? I know there's some new tools coming out.
Uh, some stuff I've seen. Yep. Some stuff you've seen. Yep, yep. What, uh, what, what are you looking at getting your hands on or playing with, or talking about or showing off at? At the
Speaker 2: show. So, uh, there's a lot of stuff that probably hasn't been announced yet or that that, that I'm not even aware of yet. 'cause I've gone to shows and been like, what the hell?
Like, after the show I'm like, I don't even know that was out. But, uh, the reaper revolver hood stand. The hood revolving, yeah. Hood stand with the tray that rotates tools. The dare we call it the controversial hood stand. Yeah. It's gonna kill it. So it, it, it's, it like from a, especially from a hail perspective of.
Being able to, if any of you guys are familiar and you guys that are watching it on, uh, you know, on the, on the, on YouTube and whatnot, on the YouTube, you'll be able to understand this a lot more. 'cause I'm gonna kind of try to describe it from a visual aspect. But [00:26:00] basically picture, you can keep your tools laid out in front of you no matter what part of the hood you're working on.
The, the backside, left side, right side, front side, you're gonna be able to rotate the tool, uh, tabletop essentially to follow you around the. Or, or rotate the hood or the hood independently or the hood, or the opposite. So you're gonna be able to stand in one spot and keep your tools, because that was one thing that the, all the other hood stands in the market have not addressed.
It, it, it's, you rotate the hood stand, you rotate the whole platform. And it, and, and it's worked. Yeah. We've gotten by with, that's the only way you can do it, but it, but it's the only thing we've had on the market until now. And now we've got this option to spin this, and now we can essentially, you'll be able to lay the tools out.
And be able to go in and fix a dent without having to be like, oh, hold on, I gotta get underneath the hood and reach over to grab, you know, what, what you would call it, you know, a tool. And
Speaker: you know, [00:27:00] dude, right after I, right after I pre-ordered mine, came back from Oklahoma City, Uhhuh and had like a smoked hood.
And I'm turning back and forth and chasing my tools. Yep. I'm like, John, can I just get this thing out? Yeah. Right. Yeah,
Speaker 2: yeah. Can, yeah. Now you just send it to me. I'm ready. I need it now. I'm ready. Need now
Speaker: Ready? Yes. Yep. So a lot of guys have like, it's no, uh, it's no secret that a lot of guys are bitching about the price.
It's expensive. Like for sure. Yeah. But I think it's a tool that. Is going to make you more efficient? Oh, there's no way. It cannot. And the name, there's no way. It cannot be more in the name of, of the game With hail, the fastest hail guys I've ever worked next to who are way faster than I will ever be are all about efficiency.
Correct. Anything they can do to shave seconds off of moves they're doing because it expands out Dent to dent. Yes. And panel to panel and car to car and everything like [00:28:00] that. Week to week, month to month. I think a lot of these texts that are hesitant with the price, and I get it. Are gonna see that, you know, down the road, man, this is a more efficient way to fix hoods.
I said the same stuff about Todd's carbon tech Rod and Yeah. The rod. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I remember, I remember making that purchase. I had, I had a Drew's aluminum rod. Oh. That was a badass rod back in the day. Beautiful. Mm-hmm. Beautiful machine and, and at the time, about the best thing available on the market.
Mm-hmm. I was out working for Dan ler. Mm-hmm. In St. Louis in 17 and, uh, who I met through BDR College and the podcast and everything, I've worked for him as well. Yep. Um, Biggs came out and Dan walks in with a brand new carbon tech rod, and I'm like, dude, there's no way. You just spent a thousand dollars for one.
And that's insane to think about. Like [00:29:00] back in those days, eight years ago. Yes. I'm like, you spent a thousand dollars for one raw, are you crazy? Like, are you, I was, I'm like, you hail brokers make all the money, like clearly, you know, picking on it. And he's like, well, try it out. See what you think. I was too dense in until my first roof with it and I'm like.
Ordered. Dan, Dan just cost me a thousand dollars. Yep, yep. But in that case, and I think we're gonna see similar stuff come through with the, uh, revolver. Mm-hmm. It may be so much more efficient. It was so stiff and, and it's the standard now, like you're going to use, whether it's carbon tech or the wood or something.
Yep. You're going to use a carbon fiber rod. When you're doing roofs, does anybody even make any? None. I think they still make them. Do they? I don't know that they sell. Probably probably sell 'em to people that don't spend the money. Yeah. Well, that's fair. Yeah. It transfers like nearly a hundred percent of your power to the [00:30:00] dent.
Where like the old school aluminum rods had all that bend and you could reach and you could push, but you might travel 8, 10, 12 inches before you get a push. Correct. And that's again, eight or 10, 12 inches on every push across the hood or across a roof. Wasted energy. Wasted energy, wasted movement. When you can go here instead of here.
Like one push. It's the, I think, I think your shoulders, I think we're gonna see the same thing with the revolver where. Man, I was able to do this hood this much faster. And if you're in a scenario where you've got a whole smorgasbord of cars to eat and the more cars you do, the more you make, that's gonna save you time.
Right. You know what I mean? If you could save a half an hour on a hood or, or 15 minutes on a hood, on every hood you do, every four hoods is an hour. You know, every 30 hoods is a day, a whole extra day of production. Well, there's your hood stand. You know, like, yeah. It's just, uh, insane. Think it's insane to think that [00:31:00] aspect.
Yes. Yeah. Yep. And I think there's gonna be some adoption with it. Uh, I'm, I'm definitely excited to see it. I pre-ordered, we both pre-ordered. Mm-hmm. They're supposed to be in by Christmas. That's an 18 days. So countdown begins, John. Hopefully they're on their, hopefully they're on their way. Well, along those lines, uh, I don't know that you've gotten See it yet.
Something I'm excited for the industry to get their hands on is another collaboration of a Stand with Kiko, and that's the dense layer panel stand. Mm-hmm. Uh, and I think that has a, so the, the revolvers 3,500 Yep. Round numbers. Uh, I think the dense layer stand is five grand. Yep. Big dollars. Yes. Right.
For a, for a stand. Yep. Man. Really excited to, that will be in the shop next year. I wanted to pull the trigger on it this year, but I've just had too many expenses straight up. Understandable. Yep. Like, yep. It is what it is. [00:32:00] Yep. Uh, but I've talked to Matt extensively about it. We've collabed a little bit on some lateral tension add-ons for it.
Oh, uh, okay. The usability for it. Yep. Uh, the build quality. Dude, this thing is off the chart. So they brought it to Danny, brought one to advanced skills. Sweet. Uh, and we set a door up and Bryce worked on it. Uh, super versatile. Yep. If you're, it's not a hail car or it's not a hail tool. It's a, it's smash.
It's, it's a, it's a shop. It's a shop smash. Yep. Tool. Not car, but stand, I should say. Yeah. Yep. Uh, but man, this thing is awesome. I can't wait really. I know both of those pieces will be in full build deliverable condition at MTE. Really excited to see what the, uh, what the feedback is, uh, industry wise.
Mm-hmm. Do you know what I mean? Yeah.
Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, I haven't had to, I haven't got to see the dense layer stand in person. Um, I have talked with Matt at the Vegas show about it, and he showed me [00:33:00] pictures and stuff and talk. We were around a crew guys, so we're all talking and bouncing ideas off and stuff like that.
And the, the, uh, they've got, you know, motorcycle attachments. They've just all, all sorts of
Speaker: stuffs. He had the, uh, the Kiko light arm on it. Yep. So your light's attached to the stand so you can move, do whatever you gotta do the light's right there. It's not how many times are you're working on a stand or a door and you gotta to move and you're pumping into your light and then your light moves.
The saw leak in setting and everything. Yeah. All locked in and ready to go. You can attach your heat clean or a heat, uh, heat gun to it and have that, that controlled heat right there. Yep. Um, really excited to see that. Um. I'm also excited to get my hands on, well, I'll have it before MTE, but I know it'll be there.
I Black Friday, the new mini hub from Anson. Yes. Yeah. Uh, I ordered a couple tools there and I've got dense layers, upper door tool kit. Mm-hmm. Uh, with the old magnetic handle that, uh. [00:34:00] This handle's being built or designed to replace. Okay. Super excited for the micro. Yep, yep. The micro micro hub or mini hub or whatever they're calling it.
Okay.
Speaker 2: Okay.
Speaker: Yep. Yeah,
Speaker 2: yeah.
Speaker: Tops of tight doors. It's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 2: Yeah, that'll be a big deal for, I mean, any dent guy, I think especially the hail market, tops the doors. And any, if you're working
Speaker: on any European cars, 'cause those doors are so tight, suck, so tight. Uh, you need to be able to sneak in there.
Uh, those are really, those are, that's gonna be a, a go-to for me. Yeah. Yep. Yep. What else are you looking at? Anything else on your radar? It's coming out.
Speaker 2: Um, I've been eyeballing Daniel Ground's new stand. That he's coming out with. I saw that
Speaker: at Vegas too. Um, I
Speaker 2: saw, yep. I got to see that at Vegas and talk to Daniel about it. Uh, you know, and now it's, um, it's full for sale right now. I mean, [00:35:00] I believe so. Yeah, because I know, um, a, uh, I saw Tory had it to, Tory did a video of it.
I watched that and, um, yep. Steven, uh, Hamby. Yep. Yep, yep, yep, yep. So I've watched the, uh, you know, I, I specifically watched to, uh, Tori's videos just a couple days ago about it. And, uh. I just love the idea of, so I've got the version 2.0. That's what we have now too. Yep. And the, the, the only thing that's a bummer on it is you've gotta take the small, the two by two arm off to rotate the tank.
Whereas this style, you're able to have both essentially feet mounted to the ground Yeah. And rotate it. And it's just a locking pin. And then you just. Rotate the tank you got. Because the biggest thing with motorcycle tanks, especially Harley's, is it's all about leverage and position of the tank. Getting it exactly where you need it to get the right push to push the dents out because that metal
Speaker: is so freaking heavy.
It's
Speaker 2: so heavy duty. Like it'll blow your shoulder out. Like yes, you've gotta, yes, you know it where like. Heat is even more important, not only for [00:36:00] just the paint, but just to help, help move the metal to a certain level. Yes. But having the, that right angle, even if it's just one, one, you know, from, from two o'clock to one o'clock or the opposite way, whatever, um, you know, being able to pivot that tank just a little bit more and, and do it on the fly with both legs still connected.
So you're not getting any type of twist, it's just more solid, less erector setting. Correct? Yes. Yep, yep, yep, yep. Um. Yeah. That's cool. That was cool to see in Vegas.
Speaker: It'll be nice to see. Uh,
Speaker 2: yep. And, and not only that, but he's, you know, selling all of the mounting plates now. Oh, nice. Uh, on his website. So he is got all the different Harley attachment plates so that the, the big opening, the small opening the bottom, uh, fuel injection opening now.
Oh, cool. Um, so on and so forth. And then they're all, um, I don't remember if they're, if they're zinc coat, because I've got the original ones when they were just cut outta steel so they get a little surface rust. It doesn't really matter to me. I don't really care, but. But just they're more universal and they're coated, so they're gonna be even more long [00:37:00] lasting.
Not that little surface rust on a plate matters, but it's, but that plate's also eight years old. I mean, that was back before Vinny went to you. You've made, you've made your money.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. Oh
Speaker 2: yeah. A hundred percent. Yeah. Yeah. That's not even a thought process or whatever. So. Um, and then, you know, like talking with, with Daniel at Vegas, you know how he's gonna start hosting all the motorcycle PR tools on one website now.
So like, oh, nice. You'll be able to go on one platform or one website and just get e everything you need to fix dents and tanks. And that's one thing, um, talking with techs that are like, well, you know, I'm thinking about getting into motorcycle tanks and stuff, and I, and I can, I can attest to this. Um, I went out, I bought the Vice and the whole entire motorcycle tool set.
Just, if you're gonna go in, you go all in. That's what I did in 11. Yep. I called him Daniel. Yep. And I was
Speaker: like, Hey.
Speaker 2: Yep. Thinking about
Speaker: it, he's like, buy it all. You need it. Yes. Yep. And then some.
Speaker 2: Yes, yes. Yeah. Yep. And, and, and he is absolutely right. He, he is not just saying that from a, from a, you know, a sales point or anything like that.
It's, it's the absolute truth. [00:38:00] If you want to be able to fix tanks, you need the tank vice and all the motorcycle tools. Yep. Done. Yeah. And then some. Yeah. And, and then some. Yes. Yeah. I, yep. Yep. But that's, uh, you know, getting the whole. The whole package. I mean, yeah. It's, it's very beneficial. Yeah. So, and that it's gonna allow you to fix
Speaker: tanks better and easier and faster.
So yeah. That's cool. Well, those are some new tools to check out and there's always stuff that we don't know is coming down the pipe. Uh, keep an eye out. Yeah. Oh yeah. There'll be a lot of that kind of stuff. Yeah. Um, so Jack, you're in charge of something else at MTE. Yes. What are, what are you hoping to put together this year?
I'm in charge
Speaker 2: of this year of Radio Row, all the podcasting and stuff like that. So, um, we've got some new things in the work to, I think, uh, I think it'll be a, a very good move for the, uh, for the radio or the, uh, the, the podcast aspect of it. Um, oh, you'll, you'll find out when you go to MTE or watch the podcast later on, [00:39:00] so we'll just leave it at that.
Well, there you go.
Speaker: So we'll be there. We're, we're doing a show on Radio Row. Yeah. Uh, last year we kicked it off. Yep. Me and me and Jean was on. We were the first radio row of the week. Yep. Um, yeah, so check it out. Uh, I know I'll, I'm doing it. Uh, I think Smash
Speaker 2: Masters. Smash Masters will be on there. Um, obviously Dent Nerds, RW Dents and Dreams, Ty.
Nice. Um, uh, Jesus, there's, uh, uh, Toledo. Um, nice.
Speaker: Well just keep an eye out. There'll be a lot of people there, so there's a lot
Speaker 2: of, uh, a huge list of people. So just keep your eyes out, you know. Just be at MT and watch the shows live. Yeah, just come to the show. Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's the name of the game.
Yeah. It's easy. It's easy. Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, for sure. Yep. Well, that is awesome. Uh, I don't know how long we've been going for a little while, uh, coming up guys. Right. I've mentioned on the last couple of shows, me and John are kicking around or trying to put some feelers out for a level up, uh, at the end of February.
Mm-hmm. Uh, in Pittsburgh at [00:40:00] Dent Repair Now. If you're interested, if you're thinking about it, send myself or John a dm. Uh, happy to answer any questions. Let us put you on the list. Uh, we're not gonna do it if we don't have enough people. Is is just what it comes down to. Yep. Yep. It's an investment, but it as a big week and it'll change your life.
Yep. Yep. Um, but like, we're putting feelers out before we do all the hard work to put it together. So I've had a few people reach out. John's got a couple people reaching out. Good. So hit us up if you're thinking about it. Um, again, just another reminder, we're fresh on that transfer over from a a i from the Automotive Appearance Institute to Dent Repair.
Now, if you were an existing student in a ai, all of your information has been migrated over to Dent Repair now.com forward slash institute. You can log in right there. You should have got an email. I've talked to a bunch of people that got their email. I did, I did. Perfect. If you have any problems or anything, log it in.
Just reach out to me. And, uh, I'll make sure we get you fixed up. If you've got any [00:41:00] questions, hit me up. We'll get you fixed up. Um, talked about the talks coming up at MTE. Uh, I think in the next week or two, I'm gonna be doing an end of the year tool wrap up. Uh, you know, some of my favorite tools that I've gone to, probably stuff that I've talked about through the year, uh, I talked about a few of them on Cyber Monday.
With that, Jack, you won't be back in town, I don't think for that episode. Your one, not as of now, your one new tool this year that you put into use. 'cause I know you buy a lot of tools. Mm-hmm. And I saw your video that I think James probably did at MTE where you're talking about like buying all this stuff.
What was your number one tool for this year? It could be a tip, it could be a knockdown, it could be a glue tab. What, what's your standout for this year? And if I have it, I'll talk about it too on the, on that show.
Speaker 2: So for me, um, I, I don't have as many as you do, but I've, uh, the shock blocker, um, I've [00:42:00] got two of those now.
Um, mainly because I got tired of having to switch tips and I'm gonna probably end up buying more. I know he is got another version out now, which is even better, better spring on it. Yep. Um, just haven't made the jump to to purchase one yet, um, that, that would locker. Yeah, that would be probably my, um, uh, yeah.
That and a close sec. I don't quite use it quite as much would be the limited mini light. I got that in Japan. Oh, the flip light. That, that flip light, the little light, um, going like, like specifically like you, you're in your shop, you got, so I've only got one bay at the shop and so if I've got a car in there and I'm doing an estimate, I gotta pull it out, bring it, whatever, and sometimes I'm just wheeling my big light outside to do an estimate quick.
No, I don't have to do that anymore For the small dents, I just bring that light out. If it's aluminum vehicle, I've got the, the Sing cup. The sing cup, yep. And it's auto suck, so just stick it on the panel. Boom. Um, that's been a big deal. Okay. All right. Uh, three. I gotta do a three. Well, listen's. I [00:43:00] gotta do a third one.
Listen,
Speaker: that flip light is awesome. Yeah. Yes. And I think, I can't remember where I teased it, if it was on the podcast or another video. So I've got a guy that I've been following on TikTok and I've seen he's moved to Instagram now. His TikTok handle is born, I think it's born do two TO Slav, like Slavic, maybe SLAV, Uhhuh.
Uh, he's on his learn PDR on his own journey. So Oh, caught him. I, I caught him. Didn't seen this. Okay. I caught him, I caught him early. Yeah. Uh, sort of as he was starting to, to blow out. I wanna say he might be over 10,000 followers now. Good for him. Awesome. His, his content's really good. Yeah. Yeah. He's working really hard.
And, and I've started reaching out to him early on. I'm like, Hey, great video. Like here you're struggling with this. You're struggling with that. So one of his more recent videos was, he's struggling seeing the bottom of deep dense. And I was telling him, bingo dude, you gotta get that flip light. Yep. Born to sl.
'cause I don't know your real name. Uh, I owe you that video. It's [00:44:00] coming and I wanna try to make it into your style. So it's coming here. I'm gonna tag you on TikTok, so maybe you'll watch this. He also just took a job, uh, with a company out of Chicago. So he was in Florida. He moved to Chicago for a three month training that I think they're providing, and then as long as he passes that they're gonna throw him out on the hail trail for this season.
Dude, that's like we talked about, it's big deal that we talked about relationships that's dipping a little bit more into the power of social media and putting yourself out there. Correct? Yes. Yeah. To get that kind of opportunity when you're new is pretty amazing. So. Born to Slav. Uh, it's coming I promise.
And I'm gonna tag you in this video, uh, to keep an eye out for it. So anyways, flip light. What's your number three Jack? Carbon
Speaker 2: Tech Lights. Stand digging it, huh? Oh, a hundred percent. Digging it. And not only that, I even upped the anti, so I don't have the Stuckey lights. That's the Black Widow, right? Yep.
Black Widow. Yep. Correct. Yep. Thanks. Yep. And, uh, but adding the, uh, the, [00:45:00] the eliminant, uh, battery adapter to it. Oh, the Medusa. Well, it's technically not called the mea. That's what I thought too. Yes. I, I know what you have, you know what you mean. Yep. I have it too. Um, so I've actually converted all three of my lights now to the battery adapter.
So I'm away from wheelchair batteries. I'm not dealing with that stuff anymore. So what kind of, what batteries are you running on 'em? Milwaukee. How many amp hours? Uh, I've got five, six, and eight amp. Batteries. How's your battery life on 'em? Typically, depending on how many LEDs and which light it is, because it varies a lot from light to light.
Um, I would say 45 minutes to an hour per amp, give or take. Okay. Depending on the life with the battery and stuff like that. You know, if you're running. You know, like I've got the, um, eliminant, uh, X Factor 38, uh, which I won at Andy's tech meetup. So again,
Speaker: we've, we've got one in the shop network that's an awesome network team.
Going
Speaker 2: to events, get you, you know, I won a tool, but I put that X factor light on that and, uh. [00:46:00] That'll last. Yeah, that's, that's a solid hour per amp with three, two, or three LED lights on, strips on, pretty strong. That's pretty good. Of a, and, and, and, and those batteries are really easy and you don't need to put, uh, any type of weight on the bottom of that specific stand.
That's nice because it, I mean, I, you could put that some bitch all the way up the top. Yeah, that's it. What's it? It's like seven foot tall or something. I don't have one. It's, it's, it's, it's tall. I don't have jack,
Speaker: but no
Speaker 2: money. It's, it's fantastic. Uh, not only like the moving of it, the wheels. They, they don't have your traditional casters where they need to be directional.
It just rolls it. It's hard to explain without, because I didn't know it until I saw it last year at MTE or this year at MTE. Right. And I was just like, yes, check all the boxes. This dude boxes needs to turn a side beam off. I can't even see. Yeah. That would be a lot cooler. Yeah. So, uh, yeah. Right. Same. So anyways, uh, yeah, so that would be the.
Yeah, so you said one, but anyways, here's three tools that I think are, are huge. Um, technically for, but um, for me, uh, that's pretty cool, especially the, with [00:47:00] the, with being on the hail trail and having to run around a car and do a hail estimate, having that light stand, um, it just, it just moves, just flows.
I don't know how to explain, like just, it just goes, you're just, yeah. You're not having to do the whole like. I don't even know how to explain it on a, on a podcast or even, even in a video aspect without showing it an actual light, but it just flows around the car so much easier. Moves up and down. You're not, I mean, and, and Oh yeah,
Speaker: because it's got a quick release though, correct?
Yeah. You, you grab, you grab, you grab
Speaker 2: a, you grab like a pistol grip basically thing. Yeah. Pull it and it just unlocks it and then it goes up and down and it just seamlessly hoop, hoop done up, down. Um. It's, it's fantastic. And there's no, you're not dealing with the, the pressure. Uh, what, what, what was the pivot joint?
Uh oh yeah. Like where, you know, you had to get it to just the right spot to where you could move it. Like I, that's where I always put it. I put it at a spot where, and a couple of my stands just
Speaker: there isn't the right one. Like you gotta loosen every time. Some of 'em, some, [00:48:00] some
Speaker 2: of 'em. You have to just loosen and move and then tighten.
Yep. This one, you, it's, it's locked in positions and it's like. It's like Jesus. Yeah. It's gotta be like every half hour on a clock, so Right. You know, 12, 12, 30, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, you know, whatever. Right around. Yeah. It's, it's fantastic. Finite. Yes. Yep, yep. Um, how about yourself? What was your big, uh, couple of schools of the year, one school year or
Speaker: whatnot?
So, you know, if I'm gonna pick one, I think it is probably gonna be the K power and tab straps. Honestly. Yeah. Yeah. K power and tab straps. I've got those. Yep. Have been like, it just moves. It lets so much metal move. Yes, it really does. Yep. Yep. And that has, and I've got tons of lateral a tension tools, correct.
Yeah. That it just, it's the easiest to set up. It's sort of the most versatile. I added a second mini one to my Arsen, so I've got two minis and a full size now. Mm-hmm. Um, I [00:49:00] know at MTE, they're coming out with a mid-size. And they're making, and they're making a change to the arms, uh, to, to give you a little bit more reach.
Cool. Pretty exciting. Cool. Excited. Pretty excited to see that sound. Cool. I'm excited to see that. Yeah. So that's probably my, probably my tool of the year or, or possibly Jonathan's industrial glue gun.
Speaker 2: Oh, the one I did a video at your shop with. Yeah. Yeah. Where you were like, I was doing as goldeneye. Uh, if any of you guys know.
Yeah. If you know, you know, the, uh. Dude, that that
Speaker: glue gun has changed. Large glue pull tab gluing for me. It's a big son of a bitch. Oh man. It just works. It just works. That is the, that's another one of those like eagle of fucking glue gun. It's like $700 glue gun. Yep, yep. But once you try it, you're hooked.
Yeah. Like, yep. It's amazing. So that's probably a go-to for me, so, yeah. Yep. Yep. That's it. Yep. You're able to pump so much glue through that six. It's about six sticks melted. Ready to go. So my car, so you can run through six sticks and not need to reheat. [00:50:00] So it's, it's unreal. Uh, started using his pellets a little while ago.
Yep. Uh, great combination there. Because I don't have to cut up glue sticks. I can just Yep, yep, yep. Dump it in, which is good. So, yeah, I think probably those two, uh, for me. Yeah.
Speaker 2: Nice, nice. The glue root, talking about glue stuff, it's hard to believe. Hard to believe. Can't believe that that would be something of my favorite.
That's good. That's good. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's good stuff. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. The, the lateral tension has been. A game changer for the industry. Yeah. Um, yeah.
Speaker: And I will definitely be talking about lateral tension a lot in my Kiko talk. Mm-hmm. And I think a lot of, you're doing it wrong, so come listen to the talk.
Absolutely. And learn, learn about how to do it right. Yep. Yep. For sure. Well, Jack, this was a pretty good show. I enjoyed this. Yeah. Uh, but I do wanna just relax and veg out and BS a little bit, so. Guys go follow us at Dent Repair. Now, across the board, even Jack, one of my best friends, didn't realize that the videos were coming out on the at Dent Repair.
Now, I literally talked with him the other day, YouTube channel, and he's like, you're gonna bring the videos [00:51:00] back? And I'm like, they're all videos, dude. They're on my YouTube and we found it. So if you wanna watch the video version and you're cock this on audio or it's still showing up on the old A A I channel because, which is what I was watching.
Yes. Because YouTube won't let me break it for some reason. Yep. At Dent Repair. Now across the board. On all social platforms. So that's it. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So Jack, thank you again. Thank you. Appreciate it guys. Until next time. Cheers. Cheers.
