#61 Expect Success And It Will Happen
===
[00:00:00] 1, 2, 3, 4.
What is up guys? Happy Sunday morning to me. Happy Monday morning to you. If you are, uh, watching this right when it comes out, welcome back. This is the All Access Podcast from Dent Repair. Now episode 61. Keeping my promise to you to make sure you have a new show every single week, all 2026, and hopefully 27, 28, you know, in perpetuity.
But anyways, we are here. I am just a few hours, four hours, three four, just about four hours until we head to the airport to shoot over to Milan, uh, for the masterclass, uh, that Bryce and, uh. Arison, gss, gss, Arlien. [00:01:00] I never remember which way to go. Anyways, the masterclass that those guys are doing leading up to the DB expo and then uh, working the booth, uh, with the Kiko, uh, European team at the expo itself.
Super excited for that. Uh, in fact. Keep an eye on, I imagine the Kiko pages, uh, when the expo kicks off. I have got a brand new prototype tool that I will be launching at the Expo for Kiko. Uh, it's a Kiko tool, not a gene tool. Uh, but anyways, uh, Chris overnighted it to me yesterday and, uh, it's gonna hop on the plane with me and we are gonna debut it at the show.
Super excited, uh, for that. What else we got going on? Oh, the uh, advanced glue pool training is going to be a go at Anson. That's gonna be May 1st, the day before their, um, [00:02:00] 30th anniversary open house. So keep an eye out details to come soon, hopefully. Uh, it's been a busy few weeks, three, four weeks. Uh, hopefully while I'm in Milan, uh, with.
Not quite such a crazy schedule. I'll be able to get that landing page up and open registration. Um, I thinking we're gonna limit it to about six students only. Uh, so keep an eye out if you're interested. And I know there's already a couple of people who want to go. Uh, registration will be coming open soon.
If you've dmd me, I will try to find your DM and send you the registration link first. Uh, if you want it, send me a dm. Email, text me, message me on Facebook, Instagram, uh, don't message me on TikTok. Have not been on that platform very much. But anyways, hit me up. We will send you the registration and you can get signed up.
Uh, I'm really excited for that. And this is a new class, uh, for me to [00:03:00] teach a new curriculum. Uh, we've been, we've i'd on a bunch of advanced glue polling for autobody technicians. Uh, and I'm excited to do some advanced. Really nuanced, nerding out advanced glue pool for PDR techs. So that is what we were going to do.
Uh, what else is going on? Oh, the, uh, glue pool competition in Canada is not all that far away. In fact, it's March 15th when I'm recording this, I think May 15th, so two months away for the G-P-R-P-D-R and glue pool only competition at Cam Auto in Montreal. Really excited to represent, uh, the United States again, and I'm coming in for that glue pool only.
Uh, I know Charlie is gonna throw some crazy damage on those quarter panels, uh, much like that, uh, BMW that we talked about and showed last week, uh, in the episode, uh, working hard on unfolding metal and [00:04:00] even leveling up my glue game. Uh, I'm excited to get in there and see what we can do with that. Uh, level Up was a success.
We talked about that with John. Got the expo coming up. Oh, next week's episode. So I'm hoping to do a multi-part, uh, episode. I'm hoping to catch a few people, uh, and I don't know about, do some interviews, but, uh, have some conversations on camera and then piece it all together. Uh, for the episode. So that should be cool.
Uh, me and Melissa. Melissa and I, whatever you wanna say it, whatever's the right way, I suppose. Uh, we are going to try to vlog this trip and, uh, talk about heading over there, see what it's like. Uh, I want to give you some behind the scenes, uh, training, uh, or behind the scenes from the training. Uh, get some interviews there, you know, some talking heads, uh, give you an idea [00:05:00] what the show is like.
I've heard great things. So super excited to head over there. And that's it. Right? So that's our intro. Uh, not gonna be a super long show. Uh, but I think this is gonna be an important show. Uh, and maybe, uh, we're starting to get a little philosophical, or we're starting to talk about some nuance stuff.
Maybe the little series here last week's show, or was talking about the ridiculous obsession that we all have, right? The, the obsession, the OCD. In fact, man, guys, the comments on the, uh, Facebook. I guess it would be a reel. Uh, you guys put some thought into some of those responses. Uh, it's pretty crazy, um, that I, I think I did touch on a nerve and, and we are just a little bit OCD.
Um, thanks for the comments. Thanks for the feedback. Uh, pretty cool stuff. This week I want to talk a little bit [00:06:00] more.
Business philosophy, life philosophy. Um, I don't know if it, I don't know if it goes maybe even a little bit to the woo woo side of things. Um, I wanna talk about showing up and not just showing up, but showing up and expecting success. So it, it has been, although I've been busy right? With, with the lead up to Level Up.
Level up and then catch up from Level Up after. And then the, the huge repair, uh, that really took some time. Uh, and we got the remodel in the a a I or in the, in the studio. That was the a i studio that, that will be the dent repair now studio. Uh, we get the remodel started in there, right? So it worked last weekend.
I think I had. 20 some odd days straight without a day off. Uh, and I was tired. Uh, [00:07:00] actually it was Tuesday. Tuesday this week, Monday this week, I think it was Tuesday. I finally got to the point where I was like caught up and I was like, man, that's the first time in three weeks I think I could breathe.
Anyways, it's been a little slower at the shop though, and maybe thank goodness for that. You know, things work out.
But when it's slower, right? Like and, and I'm in there and to push dents and fix cars with our new location, it feels like, man, there's a lot of opportunity if you're just there, like you have to show up and make it happen. What I mean by that is when. We go to work, right? Say it's a a light day and there's two cars on the schedule.
If you show, I feel like if you show up like haw and I don't [00:08:00] know, man, this is, this sucks. This is terrible. I think you're setting your expectations for this sucks and this is terrible and this is gonna be a slow day where I always try to go to work with the like, how are we gonna make it happen today?
It's gonna happen today. We're gonna capture extra cars, we're gonna make it happen. We're gonna upsell. And that's exactly what we did. You know, last week Melissa was freaking out a little bit. Uh, what it will be two weeks ago. Man, this week's schedule looks light. What, what's or next week's schedule, right?
This week we're just finishing the, the week looks light. What are we doing? You know, it feels like February's still here. The weather's been bad, blah, blah, blah. I'm. Babe, it's gonna work out. We're gonna make it happen, and that's what we're gonna do. And sure enough, right, like came into the week with a light schedule and ended up so busy that I had to go back yesterday and finish a Harley tank, uh, that I didn't get done because I simply ran outta time, [00:09:00] uh, during the week because there was so many cars to fix.
Thursday, I think me and Melissa were heading to lunch and, uh, she's like, wow, this is, this is really turning into a good week. And I'm like, I, I knew it would like, I'm, I figured it was gonna go. Like, you gotta show up and you gotta be here. And they all joke, they, the, the employees, they're all like, man, it'll be this, it'll be that.
And then when you show up, it's like everything turns around and it just happens. They call it the gene effect. I don't think it's a me effect, I think it's an attitude effect. I think it is how you approach the world, uh, is what the world is gonna give back to you, right? So I come in to anything expecting it to go well.
I come in expecting to be busy. I expect things to happen. And I really feel like when you [00:10:00] take that approach and say. Demand that you get busy, it's gonna happen. It goes back even to my, uh, you know, the route days when I was starting and trying to figure this out and, you know, just trying to make it happen.
I found early on that if I showed up, I would get cars. You know, like there were plenty of days where I went out with my, uh, you know, go out with a shammy back in the day and then the water blade. Like if you, if I, if I was like, you know what? I'm gonna go to work. I'm gonna make it happen. It's a little drizzly today.
It's a little cold today, whatever. I'm gonna subscribe to this principle and I'm gonna show up and get it done. And every time you show up with that expectation to make it happen, it's gonna happen. So I guess my challenge to you would be shift your mindset. And I'm not like a. I mean, I'm a positive person, [00:11:00] but I'm not, you know, I don't think the world's all rainbows and butterflies and fluffy kittens, but you gotta demand it.
You gotta show up and do the work and get there. You know? I know. Knew that if I didn't show up to the route, if I just called, I'm like, Hey, Mike. Yeah. What do you, it's kind of shitty out today, but you got anything now you can wait till next week. All right, cool. Guess what? That guarantees that I was gonna make $0 at that stop if I show up.
To make it happen, it's gonna happen. Right? They're gonna think you're a little crazy anyways, just to show up when maybe the, you know, the, the stars aren't aligned. But when you put that effort in the world, rewards, people reward everything. Rewards people who take that action. Um, you know, Jack, if you listen, I guess this is all part of, well, you know what, what I closed a, a presentation for, uh, advanced Skills seminars out with, and like.
17, maybe [00:12:00] 16, 17, 18, somewhere around there. My last slide was Take massive action. Taking action will absolutely create opportunity and success for you. You cannot be idle. You cannot be negative. And then think that. The world owes you something, right? You have to get up, leave the cave, kill something, and drag it home.
That is how magic happens. So just this week, right, with that mindset of like, I'm gonna go to work, we're gonna make it happen, we're gonna hustle. Um, we snagged over 1100, almost $1,100 maybe, maybe 1100 ish. Dollars in extra work that wasn't on the books, that was just simply captured because I was there and [00:13:00] ready to go, and now this is, you know, second week of March.
It's been rainy and chilly actually. It's been beautiful and horrible and beautiful and horrible. But by being there and being prepared and ready to go and saying yes to the world, right over. Or in the neighborhood of $1,100 this week just by being there. Like, it's kind of crazy if you didn't, if I said, you know, if I would've taken that mentality of, oh, woe is me.
Oh, it is slow. I just, I don't understand. I don't know what's going on. It's not gonna happen. And I just tapped out, oh, guess what? You're gonna tap out and you're gonna make nothing. Um. As well as we do, a thousand bucks is still a thousand bucks. I don't know anybody that's just gonna walk past that, uh, and not do it.
But that being said, you must be present and [00:14:00] ready to go in order for that to happen. What are some of your wins like that? Right? I know there are a lot of people that listen to this, that are hustlers, that, that share the same go-getter. You gotta get it done mentality. What are some of the things that you do to help push through?
Or what are the, some of the things that you demand from the world that when you demand it, they show up, it gives it to you? Right. I don't think it's that, uh, I don't think it's difficult, but it's definitely a, a conscious mindset shift to open yourself up and put yourself out there to be successful.
I remember a story, most of the story bits and pieces that stick with me that, and maybe this is the story that, that gave me this philosophy or helped put this philosophy in. You know, it was this guy who ran a, uh, I [00:15:00] believe it was a pizza shop, and you know, they were open to 11 and it would always get a little bit slower the later in the day, right?
Because not that many people are eating pizza at 11 o'clock at night. So they started looking and he's like, oh man, it's slow after here. Maybe we should go to 10. Oh, you know, business is slowing down. It's here. After he moved his hours down to 10 o'clock, people stopped ordering close to the close because nobody wants to order close to close.
And then, man, it's, it's a little slow. Maybe we should cut hours here and we'll close at nine and we'll close at eight. It almost becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, right? So when they start closing at 8:00 PM instead of 11, he's like, the wrong mentality is, oh, thank goodness, uh, you know, I was paying attention and I really started backing things down.
And like the economy's rough and think times are slow and, you know, we're closing three hours earlier. And look, I was right. There's not even orders coming in up close to eight o'clock. [00:16:00] Maybe I need to go to seven o'clock. That self-fulfilling, self-defeating philosophy can and will absolutely drive you to failure.
I challenge you to be the opposite of that mindset and show up. Expect success, demand success. And make it freaking happen. You know, it's the same as I think some of the best advice as hail season get kicked, gets kicked off. I've never chased for a living, right? I've never had to go out and chase storms.
But I believe along this line of, uh, thinking the best advice I've ever heard for how do you get on a hailstorm? How do you make it happen? How do you land a body shop? How do you get in with a good team? Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, when there's a storm. If you need the work, if you are trying to get on the work, pack your truck, [00:17:00] get in your truck, and be where the action is, and be ready to go and be outgoing and go meet people and shake hands and make it happen.
Right. That is an absolute formula for success and I promise you right, if you're thinking about hitting the hail trail, uh, the storms fired up this week. Uh, I think there were even more. I didn't watch the weather yesterday, but I think there were even more supposed to fire off yesterday. Show up, be there, be ready, be positive, and expect it to happen and it will happen for you.
Right? That's just. That's what the name of the game is, absolutely the name of the game. So I guess that's my lesson for the week is, uh, make it Happen and expect it to happen. And I, I believe truly if you do that, you'll have success. I want you guys to comment, [00:18:00] send me dm, shoot me a text. I love how everybody reaches out, uh, when these shows come out.
W give me some of your wins that have happened because you took that action, right? Because you put yourself into place to make that happen. That is what we want to hear. What do you guys wanna see from the DB Expo? I am excited because I'm sure there's gonna be tool vendors. Um. I guess, you know, like, and moving on.
Next section. I need some transitions in here. I gotta up my production game. Uh, anyways, what do you guys wanna see from the DB expo? What are you excited to see? Personally, I am sure, uh, that there are gonna be some, uh, European companies there, obviously. Uh, I'm hoping to see some tools that just aren't here stateside, you know, like, I don't know.
A couple of months ago, I think it was towards the end of the year, [00:19:00] excuse me, I did not have my second cup of coffee yet. Uh, towards the end of the year, uh, actually it was right 'cause uh, lov, uh, and his wife came into town and we were talking tools and he told me about, uh, the Edge Dolly from Cult Tools in Ukraine.
Uh, and I got paddle and a hammer. I hadn't seen those. I didn't know they existed. Because Right. They're not distributed here stateside. I'm sure he is not advertising to us stateside. I'm hoping to see some cool one-off stuff like that in Europe. So I'm sure some of you guys who are just at I-I-A-S-R-E got to see things like that.
I'm excited to go see things like that. It's my first trip to Europe. It's my first trade show in Europe. Uh, super excited at the. The possibility of what, uh, is going on over there[00:20:00]
again, hoping to do some great interviews, some great talking point. You know, talking head quick interviews over there. Uh, get some new faces on here for you guys. Um, I think that's it.
Hmm, no. Ah, let's start talking about my new project that we were working on. Um, there's going to be a new show, a new podcast coming out specifically for, uh, beginners. I'm seeing a lot of content out there for beginners. I'm seeing, and maybe it's because it's the off season, right? The knot hail season.
I'm seeing a lot of content out there for beginners that I don't fully jive with. I don't wanna say they're wrong because I believe [00:21:00] that, you know, there's a lot of ways to fix dents. There's obviously a lot of ways to teach dents, um. But my teaching and repair philosophies and practices don't line up with a lot of the stuff I'm seeing.
So I'm going to be doing a, uh, it'll end up being like a Netflix style bingeable podcast. Uh, it's not gonna be ongoing. But it's gonna be like 10 episodes. Uh, we'll drip them about, dear Lord, I should have brought a coffee down. Uh, we're gonna drip them out, uh, you know, one at a time. Uh, but once we hit the 10, uh, that's all that's gonna be in there.
I am introducing a new way, um, for people to learn PDR, to, to get in. And also I want to share in these 10 episodes, a lot of my philosophy on. Teaching and training, uh, and tool selection [00:22:00] and what it takes to get in here. Um, I want to help paint some pictures of what it really looks like to get into this business.
Um, super excited for that. So keep an eye out on all the channels, uh, as those start to come out. Uh, I originally. Was trying to do bulk, all 10 episodes, uh, and bring them out and, uh, do it all at once. And that's kind of foolish, right? Because again. Taking action and expecting and demanding success is better than trying to deliver perfect.
Done, polished, and finished someday, right? So we're gonna jump off the, jump off the boat and swim, uh, and make it happen. So keep an eye out for that new beginner podcast. Not, it's not all Access. It will be on this platform. It'll be on the dent repair platform, uh, but it is going to be an all beginners show.
So keep an eye out for that. Uh, really [00:23:00] excited, uh, to bring that to, uh, bring that into reality, uh, and make that happen. Anything else? I don't think short show this week. Um, hopefully a longer show. In fact, I'm almost certain it's gonna be a longer show, uh, next week because I'm hoping to go talk to a bunch of people all week long and stitch it all up.
Um. John and his wife, uh, are coming down to the show. So we may even get John on, uh, to help him increase his number of episodes of the All Access show that he's been on because he's a little competitive about that and I think he's a little bit jealous, uh, that Jack Bucknell is in running in the running.
With that Jack, you're gonna have to fly out to Pittsburgh and we'll do another show, dude. Um, or I'll see you at Anson and we can do one at Anson or we could do both. All right guys. I think that's it. Check, check. Yeah. [00:24:00] I will see you on the next episode. As always. Please go follow us at Dent Repair now, across the board on all platforms.
Uh, help us spread the word, share the show. Um, that's it guys. Thank you so much. Here is the outro.
